Maryland's China "Sisters"
Sister State, City & County Relationships with the People's Republic of China

(Reception/Light Buffet Followed By Panel Discussion)

In 1980 Governor Harry Hughes led a delegation of business, government, education and cultural leaders to Anhui Province in China and signed a Sister State agreement. Five years later, Mayor William Donald Schaefer led a similar delegation to the city of Xiamen. In 2005 Queen Anne's County began a relationship with Canglang District, Suzhou City. Tonight's meeting will feature a panel presentation on these three relationships, each of which includes important business connections as well as cultural and education ties with Maryland.
