Annual Meeting
&
China Product Safety Forum
Networking Reception Followed by Pannel Discussion
China Product Safety Forum: Growing US-China business relations featuring
interdependence, mutual benefit and win-win progress have brought the peoples
of the two countries increasingly closer. However, growing concern over
the safety of products from China burst into the news in early 2007, causing
many consumers, businesses and governments to seriously question just what
"Made-in-China" means - and whether anything made in China is
really safe. Recent recalls and scandals, including toys tainted with lead
paint, vegetables containing pesticide residue, and fish contaminated with
suspected carcinogens, have created tremendous confusion and made it difficult
to discern what is fact, fiction or hyperbole. Tensions and uncertainties
have appeared to build, along with calls "for something to be done,"
such as increasing trade restrictions, placing severe strains on US-China
business ties. In order to bring some balance and clarity to the situation,
MCBC is organizing at its January 29 Annual Meeting a panel discussion on
issues surrounding "Made-in-China" from the perspective of food
safety, supply chain management, testing, marketing, and trade.
Annual
Meeting: This Annual Meeting will include the election of the 2008 MCBC
Board of Directors, the President's Report on MCBC's activities and status,
and the Treasurer's Report on MCBC's financial standing. In addition, a
discussion of the findings of the annual MCBC Membership Survey will give
you an opportunity to help shape the direction of MCBC's future programs
and initiatives. (Click here for slate
of directors and their bios and click here
for a copy of the ballot which can be faxed in the event you cannot attend
the Annual Meeting). A reminder: MCBC members wishing to participate in
the Annual Meeting must be in good standing, and current with their dues,
