The US-China Conference on Business and Technology is an annual forum on business and technological issues affecting both the United States and China. The forum, held in the last quarter of every year since 2000, is organized by the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, Washington DC Chapter (CAST-DC), a premier overseas Chinese professional organization in the greater Washington area, and several other professional organizations and institutions. The first and second conferences were successfully held in the Washington area.

The 2002 Conference will be held December 6-7, 2002, almost one year after China formally joined the World Trade Organization (WTO) on December 11, 2001. This year's theme will be "Challenges and Opportunities in Post-WTO China." The theme is based on the premise that the scope and depth of the changes required by China's WTO accession agreement make this potentially the most consequential step China has taken in decades in its relations with the rest of world and this development holds enormous potential for opening up vast new opportunities for foreign participation in China's domestic economy over the coming decades. The purpose of the conference is to:

  • promote a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities in post-WTO China;
  • enhance international business and technological exchanges between the United States and China; and
  • explore collaborative and mutually beneficial opportunities in business and technological fields between American and Chinese corporations, business people, and technological professionals.

The conference programs and sessions will be designed around the following topics:

  • The challenges of implementing China's WTO obligations: Implications in China's trade policy, legal, and institutional reforms;
  • Opportunities for US-China trade in IT and telecom products/services;
  • Opportunities for US-China trade in bio-tech, agricultural, and environmental protection products/services;
  • Opportunities for US-China trade in professional services: Legal, accounting, management consulting, education/training, financial, and distribution services; and
  • Entrepreneurial opportunities in post-WTO China for overseas Chinese professionals and business people.

A number of high-ranking government officials, including the honorable Xu Guanhua, Minister of Science and Technology of China, and well-known business executives as well as leading figures in some technological fields from both the United States and China have been invited to deliver keynote speeches at the conference. We expect many business executives and managers from both American and Chinese companies will attend the Conference. In addition, many members of CAST-DC and other local overseas Chinese professionals will also participate in the conference. The Conference will provide an opportunity to interact with professional and business communities from both countries to promote mutual understanding and enhance US-China trade relations.

The 2002 US-China Conference on Business and Technology will be held on December 6-7, 2002, at the Hilton Arlington & Towers, 950 North Stafford Street, Arlington, VA 22203.

Registration Fee: $200.00 per person
