Governor from Tianjin, China to Visit the US
Zhang
Zhonghua, Governor of the Dongli District of Tianjin, China, will be visiting
the Greater Washington DC area on September 8th – 9th, 2003.
Governor Zhang is in town to speak with potential investors regarding
expanding their overseas operations in China.
Dongli District lies to the east of Tianjin city centre, along the
rail and highway network that connects to Tianjin’s port on the Bohai Gulf.
An hour’s drive from the country’s capital of Beijing, the City of
Tianjin is the third largest industrial city in all of China, behind only
Beijing and Shanghai, with a population of over 10 million.
It has also enjoyed, in recent years, the fastest GDP growth among
all provinces and municipalities.
Dongli
District stands as a particularly forward-thinking development area in China
with its US representative office just outside of Washington DC.
Dongli provides its investors with a cost-effective alternative to
expanding in the south of China where land and wage prices are constantly
on the rise. With a pool
of over 165 nearby colleges, universities, and research institutions; the
largest airport for cargo transportation in North China; the largest artificial
seaport in China; and a first-class network of highway and rail (Tianjin is
on the Beijing-Shanghai trunk-line), companies can enjoy the cheap resources
of northeast China without sacrificing superior access to logistics and skilled
labor.
Dongli
District encompasses two square kilometres of business park space with greenfield
plots as well as various degrees of workshop, warehouse, and office space,
with high-quality utility connections.
A huge logistics center is being built around the airport that includes
a free trade zone. Also
within the district is a developing university town, and a resort town complete
with natural hot springs, golf course, and recreational lake.
Governor Zhang’s visit provides US companies with a unique opportunity to discuss their future investment plans at the top decision-maker level.
